Kaj: Welcome to today’s episode! We’ll be talking about how to decode hair loss and discover natural solutions to reverse it. But before we dive into solutions, let’s learn about your journey, Saril. Tell us a bit about your experience so listeners know who they’re learning from.
Saril Vasquez: Absolutely, Kaj! Thanks for having me. I think it’s important for people to understand my journey because I’ve been where they are, and I want them to know there’s hope to get to where I am now. To give some context, at 24, I was suffering from severe hair loss and thinning after getting off the birth control patch. Fast forward to today, I run a virtual practice helping women reverse their hair loss naturally, and it’s not always hormone or birth control related. I’ve helped clients with conditions like alopecia universalis, androgenetic alopecia, and more. What I’ve learned is that the body can heal itself if you identify and address the root causes.
Kaj: That’s incredible, Saril. Your journey is so inspiring. But hair loss is such a common phenomenon—many people experience some hair shedding daily. How can someone tell if it’s just a natural process or if it’s time to worry?
Saril Vasquez: Great question, Kaj! It’s normal to lose up to 100 strands of hair a day. However, when you start noticing more hair fall, a visible scalp, or thinning that affects your confidence, that’s when you should seek help. One big misconception is thinking that hair loss is a natural part of aging, but it doesn’t have to be. If your hair loss starts to make you feel uncomfortable, anxious, or depressed, it’s time to take action. Conventional medicine tends to manage symptoms rather than address the root causes, but in functional medicine, we reverse-engineer the problem to create an environment where the body can heal itself and grow healthy hair.
Kaj: That’s a very proactive approach. But what about people who feel like they’re already doing all the right things—eating well, sleeping well, taking care of themselves—yet still struggle with hair loss? Why does that happen, and what should they be looking out for?
Saril Vasquez: Yes, I hear that a lot. People often think they’re doing everything right, but there could be underlying issues they’re unaware of. For instance, just because you’re going to the bathroom daily doesn’t mean your digestive system is functioning optimally. We do something in my practice called a "transit test" to see how well your body is processing food. If it takes too long for food to pass, your gut health may be compromised, which can impact everything from inflammation to nutrient absorption. Other factors include undiagnosed candida overgrowth, mold exposure, or even gut permeability (leaky gut), which can lead to chronic inflammation that interferes with healthy hair growth. So, it’s not just about eating well or sleeping well—it’s about digging deeper to see what’s really going on inside the body.

Kaj: That’s fascinating! You mentioned reversing hair loss naturally, and a lot of people assume hair loss can’t be reversed. What gives you confidence that it can, especially naturally? What’s the foundation of your approach?
Saril Vasquez: The reason I’m so confident is because I’ve lived it and helped countless others do the same. Conventional medicine only addresses the symptoms with things like minoxidil, PRP injections, or hair transplants, but none of that tackles the root cause. In functional medicine, we look at how the body works as a whole—optimizing gut health, balancing hormones, improving circulation, reducing inflammation. When we focus on healing the body from the inside out, hair regrowth follows. I encourage people to visit the testimonials page on my website to see real transformations, including my own. My approach isn’t a quick fix, but it’s natural, sustainable, and backed by functional health principles.
Kaj: You’ve clearly seen some incredible results. For someone who’s interested in your methods, what’s the first step they should take?
Saril Vasquez: The first step is understanding whether your hair loss is reversible naturally. On my website, we have a quiz that helps you determine that. You can also sign up for a "Roadmap Consultation," where I ask comprehensive questions about your health history—from birth to now—to pinpoint what may be causing your hair loss. Together, we can then reverse-engineer a personalized plan to regrow your hair naturally.
Kaj: Wow, that’s a thorough approach! Before we wrap up, is there anything else people should know if they’re struggling with hair loss?
Saril Vasquez: Yes, I want people to know that hair loss isn’t something you have to live with or manage forever. Whether it’s scar tissue, poor circulation, hormonal imbalances, or low-grade inflammation from something like mold or candida, there are ways to naturally reverse these issues. You just need to find a practitioner who can help you get to the root cause and guide you through the healing process. If your hair loss is bothering you, don’t wait—start investigating the underlying causes now. Your body can heal if you give it the right tools.
Kaj: Thank you so much, Saril! Your insights are going to help so many people. I encourage everyone to check out Saril’s website for more information and to take that quiz if you're dealing with hair loss. It’s been a pleasure speaking with you today!
